Wayne Farms identified the problem after a customer complaint was received on 27 July.
The company started the investigation process in order to determine the nature of the foreign material complaint.
Wayne Farms notified the issue to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on 4 September.
The frozen fully cooked chicken products were produced on various dates from 4 to 17 July and shipped to distributors, restaurants and further processing locations nationwide.
Products that are being recalled bear establishment number ‘P-20214’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Until now, the company has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions or injury caused to consumers due to consumption of these products.
However, the agency is concerned that some products may already be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers.
It has urged customers concerned about an injury or illness to contact a healthcare provider.
Additionally, consumers were advised to throw the products away or return them to their place of purchase.
The recall has been categorised as Class I, which indicates that use of the product could cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
FSIS performs recall effectiveness checks on a routine basis to verify that firms notify their customers of the recall and measures are taken to make sure that the product is no longer available to consumers.
