The company wanted to make an effort to be more sustainable in all of its farm practices, and it therefore explored various eco-friendly packaging options. According to Branch, the new trays are moisture-proof, microwaveable and one hundred percent compostable.
The new trays are also aimed at retailers looking to offer customers more green solutions through their purchases. According to the annual EcoFocus trend study of the general grocery shopper population in 2018, those considered “Responsible Packaging Shoppers” (an emerging, trend-setting segment of shoppers consciously making their purchasing decisions on packaging material) now make up 59 percent. This number has increased 16 percentage points from 43 percent in the past five years.
“We are committed to providing our customers with solutions to rising consumer demand, and in this case it meant an environmentally-friendly packaging solution,” said Brett Bergmann, president of Branch. “Three years ago we introduced our sustainer carton which replaced wire-bound boxes and today we are excited to offer our eco-friendly corn tray program. Our existing customers have received this item extremely well and we look forward to growing the program in the months and years to come.”
