Since the apple harvest began in the Shopian district two months ago, growers are still busy in their orchards, picking apples. The imported high-density apple trees have produced a bumper yield this year. The production of fruit has doubled as compared to previous year, which has brought a respite for all the growers.

Former president of the Arhama fruit mandi, Mohammad Amin, said that trees are heavily laden with apples, in particular with the Delicious variety, the dominant product in the district. “The high-density apple trees were planted in the district only to produce a good yield, but this year the Delicious variety has also produced a bumper crop.”

Thekashmirimages.com quoted the president of the Arhama Shopian fruit mandi, Mohd Ashraf Wani, as saying that just in the month of September, 2. million apple boxes arrived in the mandi.
