According to ASOEX, this is the second season in which apples lead fruit exports in Chile. Traditionally, the country's most exported fruit is the table grape, as Chile is the main exporter of table grapes worldwide.
2017-2018 season
The main destination markets for Chilean apples were Latin America with 278,515 tons; Europe with 225,490 tons; the Far East with 121,703 tons; the Middle East with 63,646 tons; the United States with 61,083 tons; and Canada with 23,271 tons.
Exports to the Far East increased by 31.46%, and exports to Europe increased by 42.84%. Meanwhile, shipments to the US decreased by more than 30%.
The main destinations of Chilean apples, by countries, were: Colombia with 77,385 tons (+0.49%), the United States with 61,083 tons; India with 56,132 tons (+ 142.65%), Ecuador with 53,984 tons (+21.50%), Taiwan with 49,679 tons (-4.76%); Peru with 43.933 tons (-12.15%), Germany with 43.253 tons (+70.33), and the Netherlands with 43.293 tons (+49.01%).
The main varieties exported were: the Royal Gala with 311,989 tons (+ 2%); Granny Smith with 80,473 tons (+0.07%), and Richard Delicious with 79,487 tons (+15.9%).
