The Agam Regency of West Sumatra is a mountainous region with sufficient water for horticultural development, including mangosteen. One of the varieties developed is Ratu Kamang, which has a  sweet taste and plump fruit flesh.

The Ministry of Agriculture has facilitated mangosteen development assistance in recent years. The opening of mangosteen exports to China provides opportunities for farmers in the Agam Regency to continue to increase production and quality in order to compete with mangosteen from other countries.

One farmer group that focuses on mangosteen development is the Raja Manggis farmer group. This group cultivates mangosteen in an environmentally friendly manner. With a total of 30 farmers and a land area of 30 ha, it has now produced around 2,400 stems and has been registered. Garden extension assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture amounted to 600 stems that have been planted in 2016 and 2017. Part of the group's mangosteen production is exported to Malaysia, Singapore and China.
