During the period from July-September 2018-19, about 130,747 tons of fruits worth US$ 101.7 million exported as compared the exports of 83,073 tons valuing US$ 86.2 million, according the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Meanwhile, 132,546 tons of vegetables worth US$ 32.8 million exported as against the exports of 81,413 tons valuing US$ 27.6 million of same period last year.
During the period under review food group exports form the country grew by 16.93% as compared the exports of the corresponding period of last year as food commodities worth US$ 885.8 million exported as against US$ 740.5 million of the same period of last year.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is casting an eye to China, hoping to export fruits, vegetables and value added products worth $1 billion to that country in the next five years. Using BRI roads and ports infrastructure, which could help widen Pakistan’s access to new markets, the sector has estimated exports skyrocketing to $2.5 billion, from current $608 million, within five years.
