Core Tip: Two recalls for possible Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes contamination have been issued in Canada.
Two recalls for possible Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes contamination have been issued in Canada.  One is for Canada Herb Culantro for possible Salmonella, and the other is for Eat Smart Salad Shake Ups – Sweet Kale, for possible Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to the companies or to authorities in connection with either recall.

The first recall is for Eat Smart brand Salad Shake Ups – Sweet Kale. That product was distributed by Canadawide Fruits Inc., Lawlaw Companies, Sobeys, and Walmart Canada. It was sold nationally at the retail level. The recalled product is sold in 156 gram containers. The best before date is DEC 03 2018 DE 03 112 319, and the UPC number is 7 09351 30243 5.

That recall was triggered by CFIA test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation.

The second recall is for Canada Herb brand culantro (Ngò Gai) for possible Salmonella contamination. The herb was sold in variable weight packages. There are no codes on the product and it does not have a UPC number. All packages that were sold up to and including December 10, 2018 are recalled. That recall was also triggered by CFIA test results.

If you purchased either product, do not eat it. Throw the proedqdts away after wrapping them in foil or plastic wrap. You can take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund.

It’s a good idea to then clean out your refrigerator, or wherever you stored the product, after you throw away these items. Use a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after touching these products.
