FSSAI (the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has issued a directive to reoperationalise the Licensing and Registration of the Food Business Regulations, 2018, with respect to e-commerce FBOs (food business operators).
The country’s apex food regulator stated that since the regulations on licensing and registration are under comprehensive revision and likely to take more time, it has been decided to reoperationalise the regulations until the final regulations are out.
FSSAI had framed the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Amendment Regulations, 2018.
The same were approved by the food authority in a meeting held in September 2017. FSSAI brought some amendments with respect to licensing and registration of e-commerce food business operators, conditions for licensing of restaurants, hygienic and sanitary practices to be followed by all FBOs before applying for licenses, etc.
The said amendment were operationalised from February 2018, and the term was ending in August 2018. Hence, FBOs are directed to comply with the operationalised the regulations until the final regulations were out.
