Core Tip: Over 700 buyers from about 70 nations are looking at Indusfood-II, the export-focussed annual food and beverage trade fair, which will be organised by the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI).
Over 700 buyers from about 70 nations are looking at Indusfood-II, the export-focussed annual food and beverage trade fair, which will be organised by the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) jointly with Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry Government of India, and held in Greater Noida, NCR, on January 14 and 15, 2019, in their quest to source their requirements for organic and value-added products, to cater to the needs of health-conscious global consumers.

This was stated by Suresh Prabhu, minister of commerce and industry, adding, “Indusfood has been developed as the world supermarket.” The visitor buyers will include top buying houses, manufacturers of processed food and supermarket chains.

The tradeshow will be showcasing India’s best line-up of food, beverages and agri products to global buyers, many of whom have already committed participation in Indusfood-II and are gearing up for B2B (business-to-business) meetings and business tie-ups with quality Indian food suppliers, besides generating insights into the large basket of brands, private labels and bulk purchase opportunity of raw items that India can offer to the world.

Indusfood is the unique event of its kind as it brings business to the doorstep of Indian producers/manufacturers, thus creating winning opportunities for both Indian sellers and rest of the world’s buyers. With the commerce ministry announcing the agri export policy for the first time, Indusfood is now the focal point of Brand India promotion, which is one of the key components of the policy.

Prabhu said, “Indusfood 2019 will be a focused activity to specially promote value-added and organic products. India is ranked number one in terms of total number of organic producers, with 11 lakh farmers practicing organic farmers. With the Government doing away with the restrictions on the export of organic farm products, organic food exports are sure to contribute in a much bigger way now, in meeting the target of $60 billion food and agri export by 2022, as set by Agri Export Policy 2018.”

Mohit Singla, chairman, TPCI, said, “TPCI has networked with over 700 international buyers looking for such products. Larger interaction with global customers will create first-hand knowledge on trends and market demands, thus leading to enhanced product development and better price realisation in international markets.”

The small producers/manufacturers of value-added products were until now unable to take their products to international markets. Indusfood is giving a platform to them for the first time, wherein they can showcase their products here itself. International buyers will come seeking them, looking forward to showcase their products on international market shelves.

Indusfood-I, which took place in early 2018, was success. It witnessed the participation of international buyers from 43 countries and 320 Indian exporters from 12 categories of the food and beverage industry, together generating an estimated business of $650 million.

TPCI, through association and support, garnered from over 84 nodal officers sitting in the Indian missions across the world, has initiated fruitful discussions with its partner chambers of commerce, along with industry associations in their respective countries, resulting in many delegations agreeing to visit India for the forthcoming edition of Indusfood.

This is a part of a strategic approach adopted by TPCI in planning the incoming delegations through laying emphasis on the most promising markets with high Indian diaspora, where better product acceptability is expected.

These include countries such as the Americas, Europe, the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Middle-Eastern countries.

A major breakthrough is expected to arrive, with highly interested delegations arriving from Moscow, Pretoria, Singapore, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, with many more on the house.

TPCI has already received confirmations to receive major delegations from the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the German Food Processors’ Association, the Saudi Chamber of Commerce, the Turkish Food Import Association and many more.

It is committed to promoting value-added packed Indian consumer products in the F&B segment by establishing direct contacts with the major retailer chains of the world. Such activities lead to popularisation of Indian taste and a journey of centuries-old culinary traditions embarked upon such remarkable Indian ready-to-eat (RTE) products.

Over 75 global retailers with high regional penetration will be present during the show, with their purchase teams giving a direct access to the discerning Indian brand, a much-desired international platform.

Indusfood 2019 will witness many Government delegations and representatives of large government companies involved in strategic purchase of food commodities through investments or long-term purchase agreements to achieve the food security of their country or to feed their large processing industry.

These endeavours are part of TPCI’s sincere efforts to put India on global food and beverage map and establish India as a global market for food trade. Such efforts alone will give India the much-needed recognition as an important player in the global food value chain.
