Revol Greens, a Minnesota greenhouse farm that supplies fresh, locally grown lettuce and greens, announces a facility equity partnership with Equilibrium Capital to drive expansion in 2019. Although plans are still in development, Revol Greens plans to at least double the size of its Medford, Minnesota greenhouse to meet strong consumer demand.
Revol Greens grows lettuces—including baby arugula, baby spinach, red and green leaf lettuces, romaine and butter leaf—365 days a year indoors in a greenhouse-protected environment and delivers it throughout the Midwest much faster than lettuce shipped from California or Arizona. After just one year in the market, demand for Revol Greens’ products has outpaced production—in part due to consumers’ desire for fresh, locally grown produce as well as recent food safety concerns related to romaine lettuce grown in outdoor climates.
“The heightened awareness around food safety has only increased the appetite for greenhouse grown produce,” said Jay Johnson, president of Revol Greens. “We look forward to expanding our greenhouse operations so that we can serve the growing number of consumers seeking out fresh, great-tasting lettuce that is safe to eat.”
Johnson notes that Revol Greens’ current operational team, with more than 100 collective years in greenhouse growing experience, will stay in place. The partnership allows the company to lease the space, free up capital and begin plans for expansion. Equilibrium Capital, based in Portland, Oregon, works with sustainability-focused companies.
