Thailand’s fruit harvest is expected to increase by 3% in 2023, with authorities seeking to implement measures to ensure the quality of these products. Department of Internal Trade Director-General Wattanasak Sur-iam stated that this year’s harvest is projected to increase by 3% to 6.78 million tons due to colder weather from the end of 2022 until early this year. The agency has also organized meetings with relevant agencies to explore how to further manage the supply and control the quality of Thai fruits being exported to markets around the world.

According to Wattanasak, the agency is partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to implement 22 measures focusing on four areas: production, domestic marketing, foreign marketing, and legal issues. These measures include inspection and certification of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) standards for farmers, utilizing a contract farming model to pre-purchase fruits, assisting farmers and businesses in distributing their products outside their areas, as well as arranging for mobile grocery stores to purchase and sell fruits during their peak season.
