Due to the high price of seeds this season, potato growers in the Saghata region of the northern Gaibandha district are gradually losing their interest in potato farming. As a result, the whole area is witnessing a drastic fall in potato cultivation this year.
Farmer Saidur Rahman of Bajitnagar village in Saghata upazila said he cultivated potato last year, but he could not start the farming in time due to a high price of potato seed this season. Due to the delay, he opted for late variety of potato on only a small portion of his land this season.
