Core Tip: The garlic produced in the region of Arequipa has become a sensation in Brazil.
The garlic produced in the region of Arequipa has become a sensation in Brazil. Today the producers of this crop have a greater demand from this market, the largest in South America.

Farmers from the Tambo Valley and the La Joya district exported 40 tons of Chinese garlic to Brazil. It is the first shipment made abroad and it has already aroused great interest in this product.

Juan Carlos Herrera, a promoter of the Asociación de Garlic Producers from Arequipa, said it was achieved with strategic alliances in Brazil.

Congressman Sergio Davila said he also coordinated with Agrobanco to consolidate the export of the product. He also said that the shipment of Chinese garlic to Brazil allowed farmers in Arequipa to recover their production costs. Farmers are offered an important profit margin, in contrast to the economic losses they usually incur if the product is marketed in their own country.

90 farmers from the Tambo Valley and La Joya, affiliated to two farmers' associations participated in the Chinese garlic export process to Brazil. They managed to collect the 40 tons of garlic that were exported.

Sergio Davila also highlighted the farmer's associativity to achieve the objective, which was to export garlic to Brazil. The work will continue supporting the cultivation of various products and achieve their export. This will allow rural men to improve their quality of life and that of their family.
