It is reported that the candy products sampled are mainly candy, chocolate and chocolate products, jelly. A total of 230 batches of candy products were sampled, covering 106 enterprises in 26 provinces. Among of them, 80 batches of chocolate and chocolate products were sampled and 1 batch of unqualified samples were detected. The unqualified items were sulfur dioxide residues. No unqualified samples were found in 100 batches of candy and 50 batches of jelly.

According to reports, the unqualified products for a company "Gansu XXX Food Co., Ltd." production of "red apricot out of the wall" (honey apricot sandwich instead of cocoa butter chocolate products), the production date is November 19, 2018, and the announcement information shows that no objection applications from enterprises have yet been received. Experts from the General Administration of Market Supervision and Administration said that sulfur dioxide, potassium pyrosulfite and sodium sulfite are commonly used bleaching agents and preservatives in food processing, which will produce sulfur dioxide residues after use. A small amount of sulfur dioxide into the human body will not cause health hazards, but if overconsumed, it may cause a variety of gastrointestinal discomfort including nausea, vomiting.
