Texas-based McAllen Cold Storage is recalling nearly 51,942lbs of frozen Siluriformes fish products as they were not presented for import re-inspection into the US.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) stated that the frozen Basa fillet items were imported from Vietnam on various dates between 1 August 2018 to 15 February 2019.

The products that are subject to recall include 22lb white cardboard cases containing 5-7oz pieces and 7-9oz of ‘bwi frozen pangasius (basa) fillets skinless and boneless’.

The products were distributed by McAllen Cold Storage, bearing establishment number ‘EST V21273’, and were shipped to wholesale and retail locations in Texas.

The issue was identified by an FSIS investigator, who conducted an inquiry to determine if McAllen Cold Storage received imported Pangasius frozen Basa fillet products from Vietnam.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions as a result of the consumption of the products.

FSIS said that anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers have been urged not to consume the products and to either throw them away or return them to the sellers.

This has been classified as a Class I recall, indicating a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable chance that consumption of the product would lead to serious, adverse health consequences or death.

In January, Ohio-based Stino Da Napoli issued a recall of 11,392lb of various meat products that were produced, packed and distributed without federal inspection.
