Cold storages for potatoes were created by the Odisha state government, inviting private entrepreneurs to provide storage infrastructure to the potato growers.
But some sources call the potato mission a total failure, because of the half-hearted government approach, taking hardly any initiative to encourage potato cultivation. The Odisha Cold storages association claims that the government is responsible for the current plight of cold storages in the state and it has to immediately step in for their rescue and revival.
It is reported that the cold storages in the state have been on strike since the 22nd February, demanding various measures for their survival.
