Butterball Ground Turkey Recalled; Associated with Salmonella Schwarzengrund Outbreak

Butterball LLC in North Carolina is recalling about 78,164 pounds of raw ground turkey products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella Schwarzengrund. The prepackaged raw ground turkey was produced on July 7, 2018.

An outbreak is associated with this recall; at least five people, including four in Wisconsin, are sick. The ground turkey was also packaged under the Food Lion and Kroger brand names.

48-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “BUTTERBALL everyday Fresh Ground Turkey WITH NATURAL FLAVORING (85% LEAN/15% FAT)” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18 and lot code 8188. The UPC numbers are 22655-71555 or 22655-71557.
48-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “BUTTERBALL everyday Fresh Ground Turkey WITH NATURAL FLAVORING (93% LEAN/7% FAT)” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18 and lot code 8188. The UPC number for that product is 22655-71556.
16-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “BUTTERBALL everyday Fresh Ground Turkey WITH NATURAL FLAVORING (85% LEAN/15% FAT)” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18 and lot code 8188. The UPC number on the label is 22655-71546.
16-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “BUTTERBALL everyday Fresh Ground Turkey WITH NATURAL FLAVORING (93% LEAN/7% FAT)” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18 and lot code 8188. The UPC numbers on this product are  22655-71547 or 22655-71561.
48-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “Kroger GROUND TURKEY FRESH 85% LEAN – 15% FAT” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18, lot code 8188, and UPC number 111141097993 on the label.
48-ounce plastic wrapped tray containing “FOOD LION 15% fat ground turkey with natural flavorings” with sell or freeze by date of 7/26/18 and lot code 8188. The UPC number is 3582609294.

The establishment number on this product is “EST. P-7345” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were sold to institutional and retail locations nationwide.

Notice that the expiration dates are all in 2018. People may still have these products in their freezers. Please check your home freezer carefully to see if you have any of these products. If you do, throw them away after first wrapping them in a secure freezer bag or foil. Put the package into a garbage can with a tight fitting lid. Or you can take these products back to the place of purchase for a refund.
