India puts restrictions on import of peas

Please be advised that as per Trade Notice No. 06/2019-2020 issued by the Government of India on April 16, 2019, specific restrictions on import of Peas (including yellow peas, green peas, dun peas and kaspa peas), Pigeon Peas (Cajanus cajan) / Toor dal, Moong dal and Urad dal have been imposed for the fiscal year 2019-2020.

This notice lays out restrictions imposed for the import of these specific type of peas on importers and other requirements for importing the same such as valid licenses, declaration of imported quantity per month etc.

Importers are requested to adhere to the rules and guidelines put forth by the Director General of Foreign Trade to avoid containers being withheld during customs clearance and subsequent accrual of destination charges such as port storage, container detention etc.

Hapag-Lloyd will continue to accept bookings of this commodity to India as it has not been prohibited rather only limited for quantity of import and governed by local laws. Exporters are advised to ascertain the validity of licenses and approvals for imports of the consignees in order to ensure that cargo is duly cleared at destination.

All shipments of the commodity for import to India will only be accepted if accompanied by a Letter of Indemnity (LOI) in favor of Hapag-Lloyd supplied by the shipper prior booking acceptance.
