Banana farming and marketing have given employment to as many as 60,000 people in Nepal. According to Tek Bahadur Singh, a banana expert of the HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, Nepal,  banana farming is being done in the area of 22,000 hectares of land spreading from Jhapa in the east to Kanchanpur in the far west.

Tek Bahadur Singh told that a total of 36,600 people are involved in the banana farming. The industry has also given employment to an additional 15,000 people.
