The Spanish import of cucumbers has quadrupled over the last ten seasons, from 1.87 million kilos in the 2009/2010 campaign to 8.33 million kilos in the 2018/2019 season, according to data from the Estacom statistical service (Icex-Tax Agency) corresponding to the period between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019.
The value of these imports in the latest campaign has stood at 6.79 million Euro, as the average price of the cucumbers bought from other countries has stood at € 0.815 / kg.
Of the total volume imported by Spain, 68.34% has been purchased from Morocco, which is Spain's number one cucumber supplier, with a total volume of 5.7 million kilos. The value of these purchases has amounted to 3.76 million Euro, since Spain has paid Morocco an average price of € 0.661 / kg for its cucumbers.
Germany ranks second with 0.78 million kilos of cucumbers sold to Spain in the 2018/2019 campaign, for which it paid 0.62 million Euro and an average price of € 0.798 / kg.
The third place is for the Netherlands, which supplied Spain with 0.66 million kilos of cucumbers worth 0.54 million Euro, with an average price of € 0.812 / kg.
France stood in fourth place with 0.61 million kilos of cucumbers worth 1.32 million Euro and an average price of € 2.17 / kg.
Spain's fifth largest cucumber supplier has been Portugal, which has sold 0.17 million kilos of cucumbers to Spain during the campaign for 0.1 million Euro, thereby obtaining an average price of € 0.589 / kg.
