The PDO Pera de Jumilla, a pear of the Ercolini variety, has been chosen by the Danone Group from among the best Spanish fruits with a Protected Designation of Origin for the launch of a creamy yogurt made with regional fruits.
The Ercolini pear is a fruit with unique characteristics and it is produced in Jumilla, the area with the largest acreage in all of Spain and Europe. Its quality has not gone unnoticed, and the Danone Group has chosen it to be part of its new product. "They have looked for quality fruits, and a protected designation of origin is always a guarantee of that in the eyes of the consumer," says the president of the PDO Pera de Jumilla, José Verdú García. This product will allow us to promote our Jumilla pears," said Verdú.
The Danone group is a French agro-food multinational focused on fresh dairy products and known for the quality of its ingredients and the innovation with its products. On this occasion, the firm has wanted to bet on a local fruit from the Jumilla area (the Ercolini pear), of which between six and seven million kilos are produced in the municipality.
