Core Tip: For the farmers who were disappointed by the heavy rains, there is a silver lining.
For the farmers who were disappointed by the heavy rains, there is a silver lining. The shortage of vegetables in the market has resulted in farmers getting good money for the vegetables.

“This year we are able to get almost double the price we used to get for some of the vegetables in the region. For example, we used to sell Sambar cucumber at Rs 12 per kg. But this year farmers got Rs 60. Similar is the case with Scarlet gourd. The maximum price farmers would get was around Rs 20. This year farmers were able to get Rs 70. Even now the price is around Rs 50,” an agriculturist of from Belthangady stated.

The same is true of Brinjal. While farmers would get Rs 20 per kg earlier, this year they sold it at Rs 45 to Rs 50. Farmers say that they have not seen such a surge in the price in the recent past.
