Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), India's leading fast-moving consumer goods company, has launched Cup-a-Soup, under its Knorr brand. The new product is a cheaper soup variant and is priced at INR12 ($0.24).

Through the launch of Cup-a-Soup, the company plans to increase volumes through smaller packages. The new product will be introduced in the following varieties - Tomato Chatpata and Mixed Vegetable.

HUL has been struggling to increase the sales of its Knorr soups, whose premium range is priced around INR35 ($0.70), reported the Hindu Businessline.

According to HUL, Knorr soups' performance was muted on account of a slowdown in the market, while Knorr Soupy Noodles were in line with plans.

The soups range was expanded during the quarter with noodle variants such as Cup-a-Soup, HUL added.

In the soup category, HUL competes with Nestle, which produces Sanjeevani Maggi healthy cup soup in four flavors -- amla, spinach, dal and tomato.
