European Commission seeks views on animal cloning in food production

Zoom in font  Zoom out font Published: 2012-05-09
Core Tip: The European Commission is asking industry players, public bodies and ordinary citizens to participate in the consultation exercise on proposed regulations on animal cloning in food production.

The exercise will seek views on acceptance of techniques and the possible introduction of EU regulations on the use of cloned animals in food production.

The consultation exercise is open to a range of sectors, including food manufacturers and those in the retail and distribution segments. Farmers, animal breeders, cloning companies, non-governmental organisations, public authorities and citizens are also permitted to comment.

The information gathered will be featured in an impact assessment that is expected to form the basis for proposed EU legislation in 2013.

The comments should be submitted by 3 September 2012.
