In addition to the growing demand for Canadian lobster in this huge market, Canadian lobster exports to China have benefited from the 25% tariff imposed by the Chinese government on American lobster since July last year.
New Brunswick is favored by investors for its geographical advantages and lobster exports to China. Lobster producers in the region said the company invested $1.6 million, doubling the size of existing factories and not processing lobster raw materials because Chinese consumers like live lobster products.
The company's live lobster exports to China increased from $27 million in 2011 to $220 million in the first 11 months of 2018. The company has an annual output of 200,000 pounds and 90% of its products are exported directly to the Chinese market.
