Core Tip: Thirst for quality coupled with changing lifestages has driven ice cream consumption in China during 2011, as observed by a new analysis from Canadean – Food.
Around 30% consumers each have attributed most of their consumption to these two trends for the overall consumption, followed by personal space and time, changing age structures among others, according to the report, 'Consumer Trends in the Ice Cream Market in China, 2011'.

The segment-wise trend analysis showed that quality seeking remained the leading trend in artisanal ice cream, while fun and enjoyment and changing lifestages have influenced more in the impulse and take-home ice cream segments respectively.

The survey observed that the undergraduates contributed to 45% value share by education level in 2011, while affluent people contributed to 42% of the share by wealth groups during the year.

With more than 40% of the market share in value terms, take-home ice cream led the overall market in 2011, while the remaining two segments were pegged at a similar value share.
