Core Tip: Ideal Foods, Liskeard, Cornweall, UK-based supplier of seafood products, has won a major contract with one of the largest supermarket chains in the Philippines.
The company, which exports seafood throughout the world, is to provide the major supermarket group with a wide range of products for its many stores throughout the islands. Products will include a variety of salmon and shellfish.

"This is a significant order for the company and we are delighted to have won such a contract with a business which promotes healthy living and proper nutrition to its customers," said Tony Horner, managing director. "As a result of the deal, we have now opened a permanent office in Manila to manage the business, ensure quality control and help develop new opportunities for us throughout the Philippines."

More than 80% of Ideal Foods' business is exports, and the company already enjoys strong business in the Far East, where it is one of the biggest suppliers in fish by-products. The company exports to a number of Asian countries including Vietnam, its
largest market, where it has recently opened a sales office in Ho Chi Minh City. It also exports to Taiwan, Thailand and Cambodia, and developed its first business in China last year. The company also has a presence in South America, where it recently opened an office in Lima to assist in the procurement of products out of Peru and Chile.

Ideal Foods is a £7 million turnover business with UK offices in Liskeard and Grimsby. As well as salmon, it is a specialist supplier of shellfish, whitefish and tuna to global trade customers in the retail, foodservice and baby foods sectors.
Many of the company's products are Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) accredited. "We ensure as much as possible of our fish products are MSC-approved, and search the world for certified safe products that are traceable and sustainable," said Horner.
"Our global customers see us as their one stop sophisticated seafood shop."
