Australia to set up meat research center

Core Tip: Australia plans to invest over A$3.5m ($3.47m) to set up a meat research center, in Hamilton, Victoria, as a part of its effort to increase meat exports.
The Red Meat Innovation Centre, which will be located at the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), will employ lamb researchers, reported Abc.net.au.

This move comes after the Victorian Government announced its plans to close more than 12 DPI offices. DPI is responsible for agriculture, fisheries, earth resources, energy and forestry in Victoria.

Victorian Agriculture Minister Peter Walsh noted that it is not likely that the project will create more jobs within the DPI.

Either there would be existing staff from that area that will be working on lamb research, or there may be people coming in from other areas within the organization, Walsh added.
