The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) suspended the import of poultry products on April 26 after an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was detected amongst chickens in Dalian city.
Officials said that no further cases of poultry or human HPAI infections had been reported in the area, and that poultry trade could now resume. However, they added that they would continue to monitor the situation closely.
“We have decided to resume the import of poultry eggs and frozen poultry from the area as appropriate monitoring and control measures have been taken by the mainland authorities following a confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 earlier in Dalian city,” a CFS spokesman said.
