Zoom in font  Zoom out font Published: 2012-05-24  Origin: fnbnews
Core Tip: It is the endeavour of the government to make adequate sugar available at reasonable price in the domestic market through the policy of regulated release mechanism.
The decision to allow export of sugar has been taken keeping in view the sugar stocks in the country, estimated sugar production, consumption and the domestic prices of sugar.

K V Thomas, minister for consumer affairs, food and public distribution provided this information in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, adding that the initial sugar production estimates of 246.65 lakh tonnes were subsequently revised upwards to 251.97 lakh tonnes, based on the second advance estimates of sugarcane production released by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation on February 3, 2012.
