CellVex, which is a liquid form of hypobromous acid, can be used as part of a multiple intervention strategy and is approved in all applications within a meat processing plant.
Albemarle utilized its new R&D microbiology laboratory in Baton Rouge at the Louisiana Business & Technology Center on the LSU South Campus Research Park for the development and testing of CellVex.
CellVex joins Albemarle's current food safety products, AviBrom and BoviBrom, which are solid forms of hypobromous acid. AviBrom is an antimicrobial processing aid for poultry plants, while BoviBrom is a post-harvest antimicrobial rinse for beef processing.
With the launch of CellVex, Albemarle offers customers two product platforms for hypobromous acid - solid and liquid. All three products are FDA-approved, are efficacious in reducing bacteria and can be applied in a variety of processing applications, the company noted.
Albemarle's Food Safety business is a part of the company's Fine Chemistry global business unit and offers a line of bromine-based antimicrobials as a unique solution for the food processing industry.
Albemarle, headquartered in Louisiana, US, is a global developer, manufacturer and marketer of highly engineered specialty chemicals.
