By the end of the year, the stock of Aberdeen Angus cattle will total 80,000. By 2014, Miratorg expects to increase this to 100,000, half of the total herd in the region.
According to First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov the scheme will produce 50,000 tons of meat a year after 2014, increasing to 130,000 tons in the longer term.
Earlier this year, Miratorg imported 11,500 Aberdeen Angus cattle from Australia and the US, bringing its breeding cattle to 37,000 cows.
The $750m scheme will see the building of farms, feedlots, slaughterhouses and meat processing facilities in the Bryansk region of Russia.
