Allergen concerns prompt pork roll recall

Zoom in font  Zoom out font Published: 2012-06-05  Origin: MeatPoultry
Core Tip: Chicago, Ill.-based BaLe Meat Processing and Wholesale recalled roughly 13,200 lbs. of various raw and ready-to-eat pork roll products due to an undeclared allergen, wheat, and misbranding, said FSIS.
FSIS personnel discovered the problem during label verification procedures at the facility, according to the agency. Baking powder used to make the products contains wheat, but was not listed on the final label. The products were shipped to retail establishments in Oakland, Calif.; Denver; Chicago; Dorchester, Mass.; and Minneapolis.

FSIS said the problem may have occurred because the company switched to a new ingredient supplier in September 2011. The agency has not received any reports of illnesses or adverse reactions due to consumption of the pork roll products.
