The Institute has been set up at Suguna’s hatcheries, chicken processing plant, feed mills, breeder farms, broiler farms and laboratories in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, and will offer specialised courses on feed manufacturing technology, incubation and hatchery management from August this year.
The poultry sector employs more than 100,000 producers in India and is growing at 12-15% per annum. The majority of farmers involved in the sector are uneducated. “As new value-added products get introduced into the market, there is a need for proper hygiene, transportation and storage. Our diploma and certificate courses… will offer this and will also provide information on proper nutrition… and vaccination,” said Dr Sheriff.
The Institute’s principal Dr F R Sheriff said: “We want to promote nutritional safety and (financial) security in India’s poultry sector by attracting educated youth in the field.”
