Core Tip: American Heartland Fish Products plans to invest $5.4m to establish an Asian carp fish processing plant in Grafton, Illinois, in the US.
The plant will process Asian carp culled from the Mississippi and Illinois rivers.

According to American Heartland Fish Products, it has already signed a three-year deal to supply 35 million pounds of processed carp to a client in China, where there is a high demand for wild-caught Asian carp. The plant would also produce fish meal and fish oil.
Illinois lawmakers, developers, and state environmentalists believe the plant could help limit the populations of silver carp and big head carp, which have crowded out native fish in the Mississippi and Illinois rivers.

The facility is expected to go onstream within eight months.

American Heartland Fish Products has been formed by the following partners - Wuhan Hui Chang Real Estate of China; Falcon Protein Products of Birmingham, Alabama.; and Gray Magee, Bryan LeBeau, Ben Allen and Oliver Ready.
