Core Tip: Penford Food Ingredients plans to invest $10m to upgrade its plant in Richland, Washington, US, with a new starch processing technology.
The project involves remodelling or replacing existing rooms to install new equipment, and adding a new packaging room.

The upgrade is expected to be completed this fall, following which, the company will produce new starch-based products. About five positions are likely to be added to the facility's existing workforce of 20, reported Tri-cityherald.com.

Penford, based in Colorado, US, manufactures specialty natural-based ingredient systems for food and industrial ingredient applications. It develops and manufactures ingredients with starch as a base.

The starch products are manufactured primarily from corn and potatoes. In 2011, the company sold more than 150 million pounds of starch.
