Core Tip: Nigeria, a leading producer of cassava in the world, is stepping up efforts to popularize cassava bread and make the product available.
As a part of this plan, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in conjunction with the Ekiti State government, has trained 150 bakers on cassava bread baking.

The training involved the rudiments of production of cassava bread from high quality cassava flour (HQCF). Courtesy of the Federal Government, the 150 trainees will receive starter packs, which include HQCF, a pack of enzymes, and some baking tools, among others.

Recently, the government, in partnership with the Coordinating Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, announced the establishment of Cassava Fund to increase production of cassava both for local consumption and export, reported Ngrguardiannews.com.

Other provisions announced include zero-duty on equipment, increase in the levy on imported wheat flour, marketing support for growers, and exporters.

Recently, Nigeria has announced its plans to establish 18 cassava flour processing plants to create an effective value chain for cassava.
