As competition between supermarket house brands and supplier brands intensifies, one way for the suppliers to fight back has been through innovation and development of new products. This is clearly the message from Bulla with its major investment and recruitment strategy.
Briony Delaney has been appointed to the role of group marketing manager. She will report in to Helen Reece, general manager of marketing and innovation, who joined the group from National Foods in June. Delaney replaces Adam Jackson who had been acting GMM. Delaney will be responsible for brand and strategic direction of the yoghurt, cheese and ice cream product lines at Bulla.
Prior to joining Bulla, Delaney had worked with Reece at Lion Dairy and Drinks (formerly National Foods). Reece played an important role in Sales and Marketing Manager for Vitasoy for five years and was for several years the Category Marketing Director Fresh Dairy with responsibility for power brands Yoplait, Dairy Farmers, Pura, Farmers Union and Frûche.
While at Lion Dairy and Drinks, Delaney had worked on the Drumstick, Peters Masterband, Maxibon, The Skinny Cow, Dairy Farmers and Farmers Union brands.
Delaney had also held roles at Nestlé Peters and Dairy Australia.
Bulla Dairy Foods is a unique Australian company having operated since 1910 under the ownership of the same three families (Anderson, Downey and Sloan) for five generations.
Starting out as a small Melbourne cream company, Bulla sells a broad range of chilled and frozen dairy products including cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, dairy desserts, ice cream and frozen yogurt.
Bulla’s diversity of production and technological innovation has won the company many plaudits and awards including the Grand Dairy Awards and the Australian Dairy Industry Association of Australia Awards. Earlier this year, competing against other dairy producers in over 108 classes, Bulla Dairy Foods took home a series of gold medals for their Frozen Yogurt, Sour Cream and Thickened Cream product ranges – including highest scoring awards – as well as claiming 56 silver certificates across the remainder of their product range.
