The site, which closed with the loss of 160 jobs last month, is on the market for £1.35M through Norwich-based Brown & Co.

Surveyor Andrew Haigh told FoodManufacture.co.uk that the site was zoned for B2 industrial use and they had received expressions of interest both from the food manufacturing sector and other general manufacturers.

Blast freezers

The 1.49ha site houses offices enclosed within the production facility and a dispatch warehouse capable of storing 200 pallets. In addition there is a dry goods store and workshop, blast freezers, chill stores, cold stores, staff welfare facilities, parking for about 70 vehicles and a large concrete-surfaced yard.

The cold store freezes to about -28C and is capable of storing 500 pallets.

Young’s first announced it was reviewing its Cromer operation in September 2011, when the site employed 230 staff. It announced it would cease production in May this year.

The Cromer Crab Company was the largest private sector employer in the North Norfolk town.

Locals campaigned to keep the site open, winning support from celebrities including Stephen Fry and Alan Titchmarsh.
