Staff at two of Fox’s three biscuits factories rejected strike action today, following a dispute over pay and conditions.
About 600 members of the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) at sites in Batley, West Yorkshire and Kirkham, Preston threw out a proposal for a series of 24-hour strikes .
A spokesman for Fox’s Biscuits’ owner 2 Sisters said: “We’re pleased that employees have accepted our very attractive offer, after a lengthy process, and the union has dropped its proposed industrial action.
“While fewer than 20% of employees at the two sites voted for industrial action, it is essential that none of us potentially harmed the good reputation of Fox’s Biscuits.
Industrial action
Speaking before the ballot, BFAWU regional organising secretary Geoff Atkinson told FoodManufacture.co.uk that Fox’s owner 2 Sisters was trying to impose “draconian” changes to terms and conditions at the sites, in exchange for a pay rise that was below the rate of inflation at the time pay negotiations started.
