Nestlé Nespresso has completed the expansion of its production and distribution facility in Avenches, Switzerland
The company started work on the production facility in 2010 in response to the company's steady growth.
Nestlé Nespresso has invested around CHF200m to add new production lines, a new quality assurance laboratory, administrative offices, a new employee restaurant and a new entrance and reception area.
Complementing the original Nespresso Production Centre in nearby Orbe, the facility is expected to serve as a global distribution center, shipping Nespresso capsules to over 50 markets around the world.
Around 100 local businesses were involved in both the original construction and the extension. By the end of 2012, there will be some 800 full-time employees working on site, the company said.
Avenches Nespresso Production Centre director Martin Bugmann said: "Each direct job we create leads to 3 additional jobs created indirectly."
The company plans to set up a third production center in Romont, in the neighboring canton of Fribourg, in early 2013 with CHF300m investment.
Expected to be operational in 2015, the facility is expected to create 400 direct jobs by 2016.
Nestlé Nespresso technical director Edouard Simond said: "The expertise acquired in Avenches will be shared with the new centre in Romont. Our successful implementation of sustainable measures sets the standard for the future Nespresso Production Centre."
