British multinational consumer packaging company Rexam is investing around £20m to set up a fourth manufacturing line at its Ludesch beverage can plant in Austria.

The wall to wall plant, opened five years ago, is exclusively meant for making a range of can shapes and sizes for energy drink Red Bull.

The plant also has computer to plate (CTP) and High Definition Illustration Impact printing technologies on site.

Rexam key account director Guido Klinkhammer said: "We are delighted to be building a new line at Ludesch. We have a great working relationship with Red Bull and recognise their growing needs as a leading global brand."

When the Line 4 comes on stream in late 2013, it is expected to increase the capacity of the Ludesch beverage can plant by o.7 billion cans.

Wall-to-wall production shortens transport distances, resulting in lower CO2 emissions.
