Yao Family Wines, a California-based wine company founded by former NBA player Yao Ming, has entered into the US markets after experiencing a successful run in China.
Established in 2011, the winery's first two products were Yao Ming 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Yao Ming 2009 Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which it will now distribute in the US.
Both the wines are produced from grapes sourced from Napa Valley vineyards and are aged in 100% French Oak barrels for up to 18 months for the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 24 months for the Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
The winery has selected Regal Wine Company for distribution in California and other key wholesalers, who will distribute the wines to select wine shops and restaurants across the US. The suggested retail price of 750ml bottle of Yao Ming 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is $170, while the price of 750ml bottle of Yao Ming 2009 Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is $625.
Yao Family Wines president and winemaking director Tom Hinde said they are happy to introduce their wines in the US.
"Since our international launch, we've enjoyed a tremendous reception in China and both wines have been very well received by critics and the wine trade. Our wines have received top honors and high scores internationally, driving people's interest to taste and purchase them," Hinde added.
