Auburndale, Fla.-based Colorado Boxed Beef Co. has purchased multiple distribution centers from Greely, Colo.-based JBS USA, company officials told Meatingplace.
The transaction occurred Nov. 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
"Colorado Boxed Beef Co. did not assume any trade liabilities in the deal," said Colorado Boxed Beef Chief Financial Officer John Sullivan by email.
"This acquisition will enable us to expand our distribution footprint and product offerings to all of our customers," added Colorado Boxed Beef President and CEO John Rattigan.
Richard (Dick) Saterbo founded Colorado Box Beef Co. in 1975 by. The company is privately held and led by Co-Chairmen Bryan and John Saterbo and by Rattigan.
The name comes from the fact that initially, most of the products the company purchased were from Colorado.
The company now distributes beef, pork, poultry, lamb, veal, seafood, cheese, lunchmeat and a variety of fresh, frozen and dry products. It employs over 650 people.
Customers include independent and chain retailers, cruise lines, foodservice distributors, and other leading companies throughout the United States and abroad.
With the selling off of cattle feedlots in Australia and closing meat plants, questions are being asked in the industry as to what going on down at JBS.
