Core Tip: Slane Castle Irish Whiskey has sought permission from local government to construct a new whiskey distillery at their unused stable yards in Slane, Ireland.
Slane Castle Irish Whiskey, an Ireland-based distillery owned by the Mountcharles family, has sought permission from local government to construct a new whiskey distillery at their unused stable yards in Slane, Ireland.

The company has been selling Slane Castle Irish Whiskey, made in Cooley Distillery, since 2009. However, after Cooley's owner Jim Beam decided to stop distilling the whiskey, Slane decided to come up with their own.

If everything goes as planned, the distillery will open by 2014 and will produce 5,000 casks per year. It plans to use water from the nearby Boyne river and 1,200 tons of barley grown on local estate to produce single malt and pot-still whiskeys, reported irishtimes.com.

Slane Castle Irish Whiskey owner Henry Mountcharles told the website that they have secured huge amount from outside investment to build the distillery.

The company also plans to include blended whiskey in their product line.
