While Australian beef exports to China have surged since September, imports of Australian beef by Taiwan, the Philippines and Malaysia have also lifted.
Taiwanese beef imports during September fell 10% year-on-year, to 6,000 tonnes swt (Directorate General of Customs).
Despite the fall in total imports, shipments of Australian beef during the month increased, rising to 3,746 tonnes swt, up 7% compared to the previous month and 27% higher year-on-year.
The majority of product was frozen beef, at 3,081 tonnes swt - up 47% year-on-year rise.
Taiwanese beef imports from Australia during the first nine months of 2012 reached 28,824 tonnes swt, increasing 11% on the corresponding period last year.
The Philippines imported 7,380 tonnes swt of beef during September, with Australia the largest supplier to the country, with 2,611 tonnes swt - up 32% year-on-year (Global Trade Atlas). Import volumes from India declined 17% on the previous month, at 2,578 tonnes swt.
Malaysian beef imports during September also rose 2% year-on-year, to 10,202 tonnes swt (Global Trade Atlas). Imports of Indian beef fell 6% year-on-year, to 8,311 tonnes swt.
In contrast, demand for Australian beef was strong, lifting 32% year-on-year, to 1,244 tonnes swt.
Malaysian total beef imports from Australia for the first nine months of 2012 reached 11,898 tonnes swt, up 12% compared to the same period in 2011.
