There’s a new bagel shop in town, and considering its open-view exterior and location, folks will have a tough time not wanting to visit.

The Bagel House, located at the corner of Hylan Boulevard and Arden Avenue, began welcoming customers into its spacious digs earlier this month with an array of breakfast bites, cream cheeses and open salad bar among its many selections.

What’s unusual about this bagel and deli? No cigarettes, and no beer.

“I want to be different than everybody else,” boasts owner Sammy Zahrieh, of Rossville. “I want a family-atmosphere place. It’s for people who want to come in with their kids, grab a bite and chat.”

Bagels, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, wraps, deli meats, pastries, fresh bread, hamburgers, coffee, espresso, cold beverages, a salad bar featuring 18 toppings, and other common edibles are available at the Bagel House, which also features a dining area next to its windows.

Zahrieh hopes his business brings folks back for its many items, especially the homemade cream cheeses: Bacon, vegetable, blueberry, strawberry, chives, olives, chocolate chip, and salmon, to name a few.

“It’s all about customer service and getting them the food as fast as we can,” he said of the shop.

The business owner noted his employees come in around 5 each morning to prepare bagels and other goods. While the Bagel House won’t operate as a 24-hour location, it will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Zahrieh added that hours may be extended during the summer.

“It’s a lot of work,” said Zahrieh, mentioning customers have provided positive feedback, and that the business has done well out of the gate.

Zahrieh, who co-owns several Associated Supermarket locations in Brooklyn, is excited to have a business in what he considers a “great spot.”

Customers visiting the Bagel House may need to ask employees about prices. When the Advance visited last week, an overhead menu was not available.

Anthony Franco of Eltingville was a customer as soon as the doors opened, he said.

“They have good quality, fresh food, and good service,” said Franco, who admitted he’s a tough customer to please. “Everything has been excellent so far.”

Franco described the establishment as clean and friendly. The food is worth it, he said.

“It’s all freshly prepared,” he added. “There aren’t many quality delis. I wish them well.”

A grand opening celebration was planned for this past weekend, said Zahrieh.
