Dunkin Donuts is dipping into the $4.2-million gluten-free sector by test marketing gluten-free blueberry muffins and cinnamon sugar donuts in the Boston and Miami markets, reported Baking Business News.
The addition of gluten-free products on menus is sure to please those consumers who are gluten intolerant or have gluten sensitivities. Whether the gluten-free movement is simply a trend or a health issue with increasing awareness, the consumer craze for gluten-free products is not going away.
According to a Packaged Facts report, the gluten-free sector has exploded within the past few years to reach $4.2 billion in 2012. An August 2012 consumer survey revealed 18% of adults said they are buying or consuming gluten-free labeled foods, up from 15% in 2010, with a compound annual growth rate of 28% between 2008 and 2012.
