US-based Rainier Fruit has unveiled new Junami brand apple for a limited time in select markets across the country.
Though harvested in the fall like other apples, Junami are made available in the winter for its flavor and marketability.
Rainier marketing director Suzanne Wolter said that the Junami apple offers the characteristics of several varieties and combines them into one. It has been popular in Europe and the company expects it to be a major apple brand in the US in the next few years.
The Junami apple features a special crisp, fruity character, tangy taste and crispy bite with eye-catching red color.
Junami apple originated in Switzerland, Junami apples were only grown in north-western Europe under controlled conditions and now they are also cultivated in the Eastern Washington. It is a cross between Idared, Maigold and Elstar varieties, uniting the characteristics of each.
Rainier Fruit is a grower of apples, pears, cherries and blueberries in the US. It is the exclusive North American grower/shipper of Junami brand apples.
