Peer Foods Group, a US-based producer and distributor of major meats, is set to establish a new production facility in Cumberland, Indiana, creating 80 new jobs by 2014.
As part of the expansion plan, the company will invest about $5.5m, which will be used to purchase and equip a 33,000ft2 plant in Cumberland.
The new facility, when completed by the end of September 2013, will provide an additional production capacity to manufacture fully cooked gourmet sausages and hot dogs.
Peer Foods president Larry O'Connell said that the company has chosen Indiana to establish its new facility as the state encourages good business climate with a hard working and dedicated work force.
"We look forward to the continued success here as we continue to grow and provide the best products for our customers," added O'Connell.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has provided about $400,000 in conditional tax credits to Peer Foods based on the company's job creation plans.
Currently, the company employs around 240 full-time workers at its two existing locations in the state. It has also started employing additional manufacturing, production, packaging and support associates in Cumberland.
Peer Foods specializes in cooking, smoking and roasting pork, beef, chicken and turkey for distribution. The company has a customer base that includes Honeybaked Ham, Heavenly Ham, Friendly's Restaurants, Moe's Restaurants, Aidells Sausage Company, Market Day, Sysco, Reinhart Foodservice, US Foodservice and Wal-Mart Stores.
